Miss Universe 2017 Makes African Pride

I have always told people how good it is to be an African, the benefits of Black Identity and how many people across the Globe longed to have a chance in this beautiful continent full of riches, and worse still how they wished they had our Natural Hair and our beautiful skin.I am just trying to bring out a point, as of late, i have tried to share with my friends and associates how sweet it was to be from Africa, though they still some elements that still think otherwise, but i am just happy that i now have the evidence to prove to the world that all eyes are on Africa, with the recent Miss Universe that saw South Africa coming first and still another African descendants making headlines on Twitter

This year’s Miss Universe winner was announced Sunday, crowning Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, which was being filmed live at The AXIS theater at Planet Hollywood casino-resort in Las Vegas.

After winning the crown, the 22-year-old Nel-Peters has earned a yearlong salary, a luxury apartment in New York City for the duration of her reign and more prizes.
Congratulations to our Miss South Africa for winning #MissUniverse. However, I think that the runner up (Miss Jamaica) did an amazing job. She represented her country very well and I am sure there is a little black girl out there with an Afro who knows that she can do it.

There is one thing that caught the attention of the world, whilst the South African model took the first position, the whole world and Twitter at large were on the Jamaican model, who went all the way on the stage to promote her brand through natural hair, she was just natural and was just perfect and Twitter has gone on to celebrate her more.
Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett thrilled people across Africa and beyond after deciding to take to the stage with natural hair.Ms Bennett’s afro was praised as inspirational for thousands of little girls – and boys – watching around the world.

Now powerful lessons can be learnt from this event, in the growing world of technological advancements, there has been advent of self betterment products, ranging from skin lighteners, face beauty applications, and etc all these meant to destroy your self image which the real world is actually running away from and they are now in search of real and genuine products.
The world out there is appreciating real people and if you would like to be appreciated by the Global community, then just be proud of who you are, especially respecting and maintaining your values, ethos culture and Unhu/ Ubuntu knowing that as you are there you are marketing your own product and not there to try to fit into another's.It does not mean you have to be shabby, untidy and all the dirty but you just have to maintain your Identity on the public scene

We feel so proud of the South African winner and she has greatly represented our country on the International scene, but wanted to tell my sisters who are not proud of their African hair and persona, to show them how the world out there is appreciating the Black "real" people who are proud and content by the colour of their skin and hair

The runner-up was Miss Colombia, Laura Gonzalez. The second runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett.
This year's edition of the Miss Universe pageant separated the contestants by geographic region for the first time.
The top three Miss Universe finalists were chosen Sunday — Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett, Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez, and Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.Ten finalists were chosen in the Miss Universe pageant before they announced the top five including Miss South Africa, Miss Venezuela, Miss Thailand, Miss Jamaica, and Miss Colombia.

Six women were not selected to move Sunday following the swimsuit portion of the competition out of the 16 who had been chosen after eliminating 76 others during the show airing live on Fox.

"As Miss Universe, you have to be confident in who you are as an individual. A Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that, she is able to help other women overcome their fears... And I think that is exactly who I am." -
The U.S. representative Kara McCullough of Washington D.C. modeled a two-piece bikini and made it to the top 10. However, she could not make it to the top five.
The other finalists included representatives from Venezuela, Philippines, Canada, South Africa, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Thailand, and Jamaica. This year’s edition of the Miss Universe saw the most contestants in the pageant’s history with 92 countries and territories participating.
