Every child is
born folding their hands and indeed this signifies that we were all born with
something special that only if we unfold our hands we will reap the true fruits
of our potential. The greatness is already in you but only one thing is
needed to tap into the richness of your
gifts. First and fore most there is need to identify and appreciate that we all
have something that we can contribute to make this world a better place. The
problem that we have experienced in the past and that continues to derail is
our development as human is our failure to recognise our gifts and appreciate
that no gift is smaller than the other such that if we all bring them together
they-will contribute immensely to our well- being and success.
To some extend I
don’t blame the youngster ’s for their failure to utilise their gifts because
of stereotypical views from the family, friends, and society at large where
every attempt to show your mantle is derailed by those whom you expected to support
and encourage. This has been a trend over many generations where the older
generations have passed down their myths, failures, successes, and views of
life to the younger generations. The result has been a cat and mouse race which
every person in the society has to pass through. The society has already set
standards for you and they don’t want to give you space to air your views and
any attempt is met with resistance and those who have dared to challenge the
status quo have been labelled the social misfits. These round pegs in square
holes are those who have made it in life, they have developed aeroplanes, came
up with new scientific discoveries, stood up for humanity, broke world records,
built empires, have led nations, companies, organisations. To my surprise those
that wanted to pull them down will be the first to shower them with songs of
praise and now stand in unison with you forgetting that they wanted to pull you
down before. Now that they are benefitting from those that have nurtured their
gifts they can no longer oppose you. One thing for sure is that the human race
never learns from the past such that every day, they continue pulling each
other down and it only takes those who are courageous enough to dribble
skilfully past those negative people.
I have tried to
justify our failure to achieve the best in our life by trying to shift the
blame on others but the only answer lies in ourselves. Now how can we really
unleash that greatness in us because it is already in us and it is always
knocking in our hearts so that it may start to work in our lives but most of us
we have supressed these gifts until they fade. Everyone has something that is
burning in them, they have something that they feel they should do for people, develop,
or start learning. You probably have experienced this feeling in the past or
you still experiencing it, but what is stopping you from following your heart, could
it be those reasons I mentioned before or any other you might thing of? I have
always watched some young and energetic talented people years down the line are
still playing for the same neighbourhood team, still singing with the same flaw
pitch, still participating in the same competitions. I am talking of people who
had potential to play for national teams, sing for a living, and they had the
potential to do wonders but many years down the line they are still in the same
place. They have their own reasons for not making it with their talents and I shall
not state them here because I feel we have had these excuses for too long by
too many a people. This group is regarded better than those that have something
they are capable of doing but have decided to keep it to themselves some
because they are not courageous to voice their minds and some think their ideas
are too smart to be shared in the current society hoping that brighter days
will come their way but alas the future holds better ideas than those we
already have.
In this last
paragraph I will try to explain to you how best we can unleash the greatness in
us. Whilst some of you might have read or heard about strategies or steps to
unleash your greatness, I will try not to add another 10-point plan or
equations to this exciting step to success in life but I will try to summarise
all the steps with two words, WORK HARD.
Whilst talking with another group of gentlemen about this they argued saying
they had worked hard every day on their talents but they were still on the same
place. I then reasoned with them that if you spent 10 years as a marathon
athlete training on the same terrain would it make you any better? Obviously
No, facing the same challenges everyday will only make you experienced but it
does not grow you. Experience will only fool you and I will reserve that for
another day where I will talk about How detrimental experience maybe to your
success in life. The same marathon example applies to our talents such that if
we continue training with the same people for too long we might fool ourselves
that we now good but we need to face new challenges in order to grow. When you continue
to do the same thing over and over again, you no longer feel the pain, it
becomes normal and this is actually a signal that you need to pull up a bit.
The WORK HARD should always be felt
when you developing your talent. I have taught this simple principle of
unleashing greatness to some people with marvellous results and I believe if
you desire to WORK HARD on anything
you want to achieve you will surely get the best of yourself and never cease to
work on it till you die.
