Now that we
have dealt with, the other processes in identifying your career I now want to
help you explore another stage which is often overlooked yet it is one of the
most important stage in your career path. Whilst many people have chosen the
best careers for themselves in their lifetime but right now they living
distressed life just because they overlooked this stage. This stage gives you
the energy to keep you going and it helps you stay motivated. I have termed
this stage, PIVOT where you now have to safeguard your chosen career field. The
world out there might be there to devour your dream, they want to suck that
appetite for success and they always there to despise your choice and you ought
to guard jealously whilst at the same time scrutinising any positive criticism.
BELIEF
As I expressed
in my previous articles that you need someone superior to you, to look up to
and somewhere you get the motivation that you should not give up. With God everything
is possible, and you can do anything through Christ who energises and this
alone should give you the assurance that you can make it. That dream can only
come into reality through God and you do not need anyone’s approval but God
alone and your energy should come from him. That belief alone will pivot you
toward a successful career and no one will even drain your energy. Another belief
system you need is the self, you have to believe that you were born for a
purpose and in you there is the inherent capacity to do great things but this
needs that identity and belief to tap into the rich resources of the self. The
belief will help you stay away from those people who are out there to drain
your energy.
MENTORSHIP
This again
is one of the most overlooked aspects of a successful career where we have
witnessed many people venturing into their career paths with the rightful
mentorship and at the end of the day they are making uninformed decisions. One
thing for sure is that many people out there in respective fields are in search
of mentees to work with, they need people to mentor and inspire especially into
their fields but in there has been a missing link between the prospective workers
and those already working. You should find someone already into the field which
you want to pursue, approach them and request them to mentor or share with you
some nuggets with the you. All the people whom you know or see that they have
been very successful could not have done so without the help of the mentor.
Whilst some people might be unapproachable you can always find some ways to
make it happen where you have to become a great reader of current affairs
especially in you field and you can do so by subscribing to some magazines,
blogs and downloading materials on the internet. Another way is to ask more
about your desired profession from many people in the field and always be
attentive to the challenges faced, experiences and advantages and at the end of
the day you evaluate and make your own decision.
ACTION
Now that we
have talked about all that is needed to keep you on your career path, I would
like to introduce yet another common aspect but which is often overlooked by
many people again.
You now need
to act, and of course hard work in order to get it and if you are really
serious about it, this means you have to stretch yourself a bit or just more.
Even if it means staying up late and waking up early you have to do it by the
way. If you really need it, then it means sacrificing some of your best routines,
it means even missing some of your favourite series, movies, talks, soccer
matches etc only to achieve it. If it was easy then everyone could be doing it,
but what makes you part of the few is your dedication and desire to action. You
have to sweat for it and to me it is the worthy the sacrifice and you have to
do it now.
